LIFE

FAITH IN ACTION - LIFE

The Knights of Columbus vigorously defends the dignity of each human being at every stage of life. A large part of Bel Air Council’s Life activities revolve around raising funds for local organizations and efforts that support life!

Alzheimer’s Association: Bel Air Council hosts an all-night BINGO session specifically to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Association. Bel Air Council also fields a team to participate in the annual Harford County Alzheimer’s Association walk-a-thon to raise funds for this cause.

Birthright of Bel Air: Birthright is a pregnancy help center where anyone concerned about an unplanned or untimely pregnancy can find assistance as near as the telephone. Staffed by trained volunteers and operating solely by donations, Birthright offers services to help the woman with her pregnancy, both materially and through community referrals. Birthright of Bel Air offers personal, confidential help to those involved, whether they are single or married, regardless of age, race, income, or religion. Together they will assess the situation and explore alternatives available.

March for Life: The Knights of Columbus encourages others to choose life through public support of the pro-life cause.

Latest Marist Poll on “Americans’ Opinions on Abortion” finds most Americans still agreeing that abortion in the United States should be limited and that tax dollars should not go to fund abortions.

Novena for Life: The protection of life is a sustained prayer intention of the Church. Knights remain firmly committed to defending the right to life of every human being – from the moment of conception to natural death. To commemorate and bolster this important cause, we promote a novena, nine days of sustained prayer, to build up a culture of life in our parishes, homes and wider community.

Special Olympics: The Knights of Columbus has a unique partnership with the Special Olympics and has helped disabled athletes train for and compete in games around the world. Bel Air Council sponsors local athletes to enable them to compete.

The Miracle League: The Miracle League provides opportunities for children with disabilities to play Miracle League baseball, regardless of their abilities. It promotes community support and sponsorship of Miracle Leagues and it promotes the construction of special facilities that meet the unique needs of Miracle League players and their families. Miracle League of Harford County raised the funds to build the field off Shucks Road. Bel Air Council supports this cause through donations and support to an annual bowl-a-thon.

Ultrasound Program: The Knights of Columbus works together as an organization to purchase ultrasound machines for qualifying pregnancy centers. Statistics reveal that most women who consider abortion choose life after seeing an ultrasound image of their child. Maryland has been very successful already funding nine machines which are in place and saving lives.

The Day of the Unborn Child: is observed on the Feast of the Annunciation and is in line with the International Day of the Unborn Child established by Pope John Paul II. Pope John Paul II viewed the day as; “a positive option in favor of life and the spread of a culture for life to guarantee respect for human dignity in every situation.”
