Community Activities

The Bel Air Council funds or sponsors various projects and programs in five major areas: Church, Community, Council, Family and Youth. Listed below are some of the community activities our council supports. The chairmain for Community Activities is open. Click on Knights in Action for photographs.

Ladies Auxiliary ActivitiesThe Ladies Auxiliary support a large number of activies including: Anna's House, Four Seasons Assisted Living, Birthright Pregnancy Resource Center, St. Margaret Church Flower Garden, Bagged Lunches for the Homeless, Sparrows House, Valentines for the Perry Point Veterans Hospital, Christmas Cookies and other goodies, Lenten Activities, Confirmation Candidates, Christmas Dinner, Quarter Auction and the Bob Evans Fundraiser.Knights Ladies
Tootsie Roll CampaignThis program provides 100% of the monies collected to persons with disabilities. Members in front of food stores collect change deposited into canisters.Don Litz
Monthly CabaretThis takes place during the winter months on the fourth Sunday evening of the month. A member disc jockey is available to provide music for dancing. For a small charge attendees are entitled to beer, soda and snacks.Charles Belli
Thanksgiving Basket DistributionDuring the season leading to the Thanksgiving holiday members are asked to bring canned goods or non-perishables each time they visit the hall. Bingo players also participate. The goods collected, including a turkey supplied by the council, are distributed to needy families in the community.Frank DiAngelo, PGK, FDD
Community Service AwardsThe Council uses this program to recognize outstanding contributions by firefighters, teachers, policemen or other public servants. Selected award winners are invited to the council home for dinner and presentation of the awards. Awardees are than nominated for a state-wide award.Pat Ruckle, PGK
FIELDS Christmas Party(Future Individual Education & Learning for the Disabled) This local group consists of young adults of various ages with disabilities. Dancing, singing of Christmas carols and a dinner is provided. Santa offers a gift to each person.Terry Lijewski, PGK
BirthrightLocated in Bel Air, helps pregnant women, in confidence, with their decision on having a child. They also help new mothers with the caring of the new born. The council collects diapers, clothing and other supplies during the Christmas season and during a "Christmas in July" social event.
Seniors Essay ContestEach year, the state deputy sponsors a contest for seniors on a specific topic, usually related to religion. A plaque is awarded by the council for the winning essay.Bernie Classon, PGK, FDD
Seniors First FridayOn the first Friday of each month (except summer months) St. Margaret Church, provides a lunch for its senior citizens. Each December, the lunch is provided to more than 100 seniors by the Council. The lunch is proceeded with the recitation of the rosary and Mass.Jerry Wagner
BingoBingo is the Council's major fund raising activity and is held at the council home each Friday evening.
